Founded in 1995 by Yakup Karahan, Doğa Seed is Turkey’s first and only fully integrated potato company and one of the most reputable in the world. From seed to fork (from farm to table), we manage every stage of production, including potato variety breeding, seed production, cultivation, storage, and frozen potato products.
Our meticulously established quality control system ensures full traceability, so you can know exactly where your potatoes come from.
Breeding
Doğa Tohumculuk set out with the motivation of producing high-quality seeds for its own agricultural production. However, the only way to deliver quality and healthy seeds was to have our own potato varieties-in other words, to actually become a breeder.
Today, at the Doğa R&D Center, we are proud to have developed Turkey’s first native potato seed varieties: Zirve, Doruk, and Kutup! These were followed by the pioneers Bahar, Volkan, Kaya, İlkmor, and our journey continues with the registration of at least five new varieties every year.
After 20 years of effort, we take pride in offering our country — once a seed importer — “the most suitable varieties and the most reliable seeds.” With a branding strategy that targets international markets, we continue moving forward on our path.
R&D Center
Doğa R&D Center, located in Nevşehir, has 2 fully equipped laboratories, 3 fully controlled greenhouses, and a 5.5-decare seed production greenhouse with an annual capacity of developing 50,000 variety candidates. Our gene bank contains 72 varieties we have developed ourselves, with an average of 20 new candidates added each year
The tissue culture mini-tuber production facility produces 800,000 plantlets and 1.5 million mini tubers (super-elite generation seeds) annually. We established our facilities by utilizing the opportunities provided by TÜBİTAK projects, and by increasing the number of scientific projects, we expand our R&D investment every year.
Seed and Potato Production/Storage
At Doğa Tohumculuk, we produce an average of 20,000 tons of seed potatoes annually and have an infrastructure for 120,000 tons of potato production. For many years, we supplied raw materials to global giants such as Kraft and Frito-Lay. Today, we use our harvest in the production of “Doğa Frost”, Pomking, and Pomqueen.
In 1996, we became the pioneers of the first modern underground storage facilities in Cappadocia. Today, we own 6 modern underground storage facilities with a total capacity of 72,140 tons.
Frozen Product
In 2011, we began producing frozen potato products in Nevşehir. At our facility, covering a total area of 65,000 m² (16,000 m² of indoor space) with an annual potato processing capacity of 60,000 tons, we process our own harvest. Our seed-to-fork products, “Doğa Frost”, Pomking, and Pomqueen, are produced according to the principle “good raw material means good product” and comply with the standards of BRC Global Standard for Food Safety, ISO 22000:2005, and Halal Certifications.
Starting as a potato supplier, Doğa Tohumculuk has evolved into a fully integrated R&D company, driven by its unique quality control system and the dedicated efforts of its 190-member team.
With the motto “From Seed to Fork,” it succeeded in making our country — once a seed potato importer — self-sufficient, and in providing the Turkish food market with high-quality seeds, potatoes, and potato products.
